FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 7, 2022 BCGEU reaches tentative agreement in B.C. public service bargaining VICTORIA, B.C. -Following more than seven months of negotiations and a historic job action that lasted almost two weeks, the BC General Employees' Union's (BCGEU) public service bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement with the provincial government's B.C.'s Public The B.C. We acknowledge the rights, interests, priorities, and concerns of all Indigenous Peoples - First Nations, Métis, and Inuit - respecting and acknowledging their distinct cultures, histories, rights, laws, and governments.The British Columbia General Employees' Union (BCGEU) is a trade union in British Columbia, Canada which represents over 85,000 members.The union employs over 200 servicing and administrative staff in 12 area offices across the province and at the Burnaby head office. The current President of the BCGEU is Stephanie Smith. Smith was elected to this position in 2014. Under the agreement reached, in recognition of errors and delays, the following actions will be taken: A one-time addition of 3.5 hours vacation will be added to the Displaced Vacation bank of every BCGEU employee (regular and benefited auxiliaries) in the public service who was employed on October 6, 2023, except employees of the BC Wildfire Service. Bargaining unit employees in the BCGEU, PEA or BCNU can bank and carry over up to a maximum of 10 days (70 hours) of unused vacation. Vacation not taken that exceeds this amount is archived and may not be cashed out except upon resignation, retirement or termination.
