Each area has unique features, including location, architecture, and cultural or academic living/learning programs. Each residential area also has its own facilities, including classrooms, recreational Residence Halls. At UMass Amherst, residence halls are a lot more than a place to sleep. The fifty-two residence halls and apartment buildings are grouped into seven separate and very different residential areas: Central, Commonwealth Honors College Residential Community, Northeast, Orchard Hill, Southwest, Sylvan and North. Each possesses its Sylvan Residential Area offers suite-style living in a shady wooded area. Each residence hall contains 64 suites. Some suites are all-male, some all-female, some mixed-gender, and some gender-inclusive. Each suite is a mixture of double and single rooms, a common bathroom, and a common living room. Cons: Smaller room than usual, the walls are kinda thin (easy to hear), location is a little far from everything from campus, not a lot of social activities. Cashin Hall is located in Sylvan, which is slightly further up the hill of Northeast.
