Fatimah Tuggar is a US-based Nigerian multidisciplinary artist. She uses technology as both a medium and a subject to serve as a metaphor for power dynamics in her work. who was also a part of the watershed exhibition This is Tomorrow which held at the Whitechapel Gallery in London in 1956. Robo represents the forlorn hero of post-war "Fatimah Tuggar: Home's Horizons," at Wellesley College's Davis Museum through December 15, offers 26 large-scale works by the Nigerian-born, Kansas-based conceptual artist. Given her trajectory, from roots in Africa to studying at the Kansas City Art Institute and earning a master's in fine arts from Yale in 1995, it's perhaps not surprising to read in the exhibit materials that Fatimah Tuggar. Fatimah Tuggar (b. 1967, Kaduna, Nigeria) received her BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and her MFA from Yale University. Tuggar's digital photomontages use computer technology and image manipulation software to juxtapose scenes from African and American daily life, as she draws from her own experiences of growing up and Tuggar's 26 works explore the past and present of home technologies, featuring both high-tech gadgets and handmade craftwork. Tuggar's pieces aim to question and expand the concept of the home, uprooting it from a specific continent or city. Rather, the homes are tethered to the horizon. Fatimah Tuggar Links the Digital and Artisinal Fatimah Tuggar creates computer montages that confront technological disparities by presenting rural Nigerian women and children juxtaposed with useless and fantasy-based technological devices.
