Troy Brauntuch. Troy Brauntuch (b. 1954, Jersey City, NJ) Born in 1954 in New Jersey, Brauntuch graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. He currently divides his time between New York, NY and Austin, TX. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally for over 30 years. His years in New York in the late '70s and 1980s were spent running up the ladder alongside his friends, like Cindy Sherman, Matt Mullican, David Salle, Goldstein and Longo, whose careers Petzel Gallery is pleased to present A Strange New Beauty, a solo exhibition of new works by Troy Brauntuch. The show, which will be on view from January 15 to March 7, 2020, marks Brauntuch's eighth show with the gallery and his second at the Upper East Side location. The scene is treated with dark hues and a dim light, effects that the painter typically uses in his practice. The format is akin to CinemaScope, a recording and broadcasting 2.39:1 format.
