Listen. About this location. The Glow Worms are located in an old rail tunnel 400 metres in length. Situated in the Wollemi National Park, close to Lithgow, the tunnel was originally constructed as part of the railway line to Newnes Kerosene Shale Works. The line was dismantled around the 1940s. The Glowworm Tunnel is the second of these old tunnels. The long steady curve means that the middle of the tunnel is pitch black, and the walls are always damp with water, ideal conditions for glowworms.
