With the arrival of the Pecos Valley Southern Railway two years later, Saragosa became a shipping point for alfalfa, cotton, and fruits. By 1925, the community had a population of approximately 25. That number rose to 150 in 1931, but soon declined to around 25 in the mid-1930s. In 1938, Saragosa's school district consolidated with nearby Pecos. On the evening of May 22nd, 1987, the small community of Saragosa, TX in rural Reeves County was devastated by a violent F4 tornado. In a brief span of 15 minutes, the tornado carved a path of destruction through town. Much of Saragosa suffered catastrophic destruction with little to no structures spared. Sadly, a total of 30 people lost their Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2023 at the Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. It began as a farming community in 1880 when fifteen families settled on Toyah Creek four miles east of its present site.
