André Jean Marie Brochant de Villiers, né le 6 août 1772 à Mantes-la-Ville et mort le 16 mai 1840 à Paris, est un géologue et minéralogiste français. Biographie. Il étudie à l'École des mines de Freiberg sous la direction d 'Abraham Gottlob He was born at the Château de Villiers, near Mantes-la-Ville. After studying at the École Polytechnique, Paris, he was in 1794 the first pupil admitted to the École des Mines. In 1804 he was appointed professor of geology and mineralogy in the École des Mines, which had been temporarily transferred to Pezay in Savoy, and he returned with the school to Paris in 1815. From 1791 to '93, Brochant studied under A.G. Werner at Freiberg. In 1794 he entered the newly formed École des Mines. He won an appointment as an engineer in the Agence des Mines in 1800 and became an editor of the Journal des Mines in 1801. In 1804, Brochant was named a professor of geology of mineralogy at the École des Mines.
