Widcombe Social Club, Widcombe Hill, Bath BA2 6AA, UK Sir Anthony van Dyck was the principal painter at the court of King Charles I and is regarded as the greatest painter in 17th century Britain. This lecture will examine the 'Flemishness' of his art and trace how it altered subtly to fit in with British tastes and expectations. The proposed site of tree works is the garden setting of Crowe Hall, a Grade II mid- to late 18th century detached house situated within the Widcombe character area of the Bath City-Wide Conservation Area and World Heritage Site. The garden is a Grade II designated Park & Garden, originally set out as an informal parkland before later, more Widcombe is a district of Bath, England, immediately south-east of the city centre, across the River Avon. The electoral ward was merged with Lyncombe at the boundary changes effected at the elections held on 2 May 2019; the two places have historically been connected (refer to the Lyncombe article).
