The domaine was established in 1990 when founder Patrice Rion was still working as head winemaker at the Rion family estate, Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils. In 2000, he left to make wine at his own domaine, and built a new winery in northern Prémeaux. In 2005 Patrice and Michèle's son Maxime joined the business. Patrice Rion and his wife Michèle began their own small domaine with just two wines, an outstanding Bourgogne Rouge Bons Batons and the sumptuous Chambolle Musigny les Cras, in 1990 while Patrice continued as winemaker at the Domaine Daniel Rion.They enlarged in 2000 when Patrice left Domaine Daniel Rion. He has built a cuverie and cellar on his own property and also makes a small range of Michele et Patrice. Together, this husband and wife team created the estate in 1990, at a time when Patrice was still in charge of his family's domaine (Daniel Rion). He built his own winery in 2000 and created his negociant business, SARL Patrice Rion.
