Purple leaved wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei 'Coloratus'): Growing 1 to 1½ feet high and 6 feet wide, this cultivar has glossy green leaves with purple undersides. The leaves turn purple in late autumn and winter. Sarcoxie wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei 'Sarcoxie'): A common cultivar, Sarcoxie grows 4 to 5 feet high and wide. Wintercreeper is hard to kill and will do fine planted any time between early spring and late fall. Fertilize a few weeks after planting, if you choose to use fertilizer. Grown in more moderate or warm climates, it can be planted any time. As with many plants, it is best not to plant during the hottest part of the day. Opposite evergreen leaves (up to 1" long) with crenate-serrate margins and distinct veins. Leaves turn a plum-violet color in the winter months. Euonymus fortuneii 'Coloratus' is an evergreen, trailing groundcover with 1 1/2" - 2", green, oval shaped leaves. Commonly known as Purple Wintercreeper because the leaves turn burgundy in the Fall.
