People gather for a memorial in Prescott on June 30, 2023, to mark 10 years since the Yarnell Hill Fire killed 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, the deadliest wildfire in Arizona history. The Center will be open daily from June 28 through July 7. Monday through Saturday 10-4, and Sundays 11-4. The Center will resume normal hours- Friday and Saturday 10-4 and Sundays 11-4 on July 12. It was the deadliest wildland fire for U.S The Prescott Hotshots originated in 1972 with the formation of a regular crew (Type II). George Pittman was the crew boss with a crew made up of Prescott College students. In 1973, Durk Lokes ran the crew and applied for and attained Type I Hotshot Crew status in July of that year.
