In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the El Paso County Historical Society is looking back at past Password articles. Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from Sept. 15 through Oct. 14, According to the Library of Congress. It began in "1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson." Cisneros died over the weekend of natural causes at a foster care home in El Paso where he was admitted two weeks ago, according to his family. The self-taught artist was color-blind since birth. Cisneros was born in Durango, Mexico, in 1910, but his family was displaced by the Mexican Revolution and eventually settled in El Paso.
