An eclectic collection of images in a variety of styles and strategies is brought together by a stream of consciousness-like rhythm Rasen kaigan 46, 2011 from the series Rasen kaigan (Spiral Shore), 2008-13 Chromogenic print Shiga made concentric circles in the sand by the shore with a large local tree root that she dug up from the earth. She equates the making of such tracks with the act of making photographs, and thus named her project Spiral Shore. Shiga's artistic practice has developed out of her visceral sense unease with the coziness and automation everyday life. Born in 1980 she made work both Japan abroad. Her first visit to Miyagi Prefecture was 2006 when taking part an exhibition at S, Akaaka, 2013, Tokyo. Years in the making, "Rasen Kaigan" affirms Shiga's position as one of the most compelling young photographers in Japan today.
