Talwin Morris. In 1893, Talwin Morris (1865-1911) moved from London to Glasgow to become Art Director for the publisher Blackie and Son. He later took on additional work with the publisher Gresham. These were very successful publishers, producing reference books and books for schools, among other types of publications. DESIGNS OF TALWIN MORRIS Lyle Ford T ALWIN MORRIS worked as a book designer from 1893 to 1911, the year of his death. Immersed in the Glasgow Style, he created a body of graphic design uniquely situated between the decline of blind-stamped Victorian publishers' bindings and the appearance of the now ubiquitous dust jacket. The graphic artist Talwin Morris (1865-1911) was a member of the circle of artists surrounding the architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh in Glasgow. Through his book designs, Morris was able to introduce a wide audience to what was known as the 'Glasgow Style' as it flourished at the end of the nineteenth century. Talwin Morris was born in Winchester, Hampshire, England on 14 June 1865 and was articled to his uncle, Joseph Morris (1836-1913) at his practice, Morris & Smallwood, in Reading, Berkshire from 1882 to 1885. The practice specialised in church architecture. Following the completion of his articles, he moved to London where, in 1885, he began working as an assistant to James Martin Brooks (1859 This talk will introduce the life, book designs and legacy of Glasgow Style designer Talwin Morris (1865-1911).
