Two terms that everyone should understand are MSDU and MPDU. An 802.11 MAC Service Data Unit (MSDU) is the layer 3-7 payload of an 802.11 data frame. An 802.11 MAC Protocol Data Unit (MPDU) is essentially a technical term for wireless frame. An MPDU consists of a frame header, body and trailer with the MSDU payload encapsulated in the frame body. 1. Aggregate MAC Service Data Unit ( A-MSDU) 2. Aggregate MAC Protocol Data Unit ( A-MPDU) The main distinction between MSDU & MPDU is the former corresponds to upper part of MAC sublayer where as MPDU. A-MSDU: The concept of A-MSDU is to allow multiple MSDUs to be sent to the same receiver concatenated in a single MPDU. A-MSDUs are transmitted to the underlying physical layer (PHY-layer), where they are processed as MPDU. Each A-MSDU block contains a common header for multiple MSDU frames that are assigned to one client and belong to the same IEEE 802.11e class of service.
