Robert Kipniss, painter and printmaker, was born in New York City in 1931. Kipniss studied at the Art Students League in 1947, Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, 1948-50, and the University of Iowa, receiving a BA degree in English literature in 1952, and an MFA in painting and art history in 1954. In his career, Robert Kipniss has had Written by Morris Shapiro, Park West Gallery Director. As a young art student in Minneapolis one day in 1974, I experienced an artistic awakening. While wandering through an art display in a bank, I was touched by a singular work; a lithograph in dark tones of brown and green. I stopped, contemplated it for a moment and moved on. Robert Kipniss's stark, moody drawings and graphic works are eagerly collected and exhibited by both public and private art enthusiasts around the world.
