Thomas "Tom" Bevers came to Anchorage in 1921 and quickly became involved in the development of Anchorage. He became the town's first paid firefighter. Arriving in Anchorage in 1921, Thomas "Tom" Bevers [Beavers] played a number of roles in his adopted community. He was the town's first paid firefighter in the Volunteer Fire Department. He served as Chief of the City of Anchorage Fire Department from 1927 to 1940.
