Conway Chat Group on iO Groups. The chat group has been in existence for over ten years and has over 400 members. It is completely separate to the Club but we thought we'd add a link to it for those interested. It is open to all OCs whether members of the Club or not. We were formed in 1996 to preserve the memory of the training school ship HMS Conway. Since then we have acquired and safeguarded a huge number of Conway artefacts, organised numerous displays of Conway memorabilia and created beautiful memorial windows at each of the ship's three moorings. Thus was formed the Conway Club Cruising Association. The first Commodore was Vice Admiral Sir David Clutterbuck (26-29), in due course he was succeeded by Vice Admiral Sir David Brown (41-45) and he by David Fletcher Rogers (43-45) who retired in 2001 to be succeeded by Richard Martin (42-44). About The Conway Club. The Conway Club was founded in 1910 by the late Captain H W Broadbent RD RNR who was at that time Captain Superintendent of HMS Conway. The first President of the Club was Major Sir Hamilton Gould Adams. He was President for 11 years, 19 - 21 July 2024. 2024 marks 50 years since Conway paid off on 12th July 1974, 60 years since the New Block formally opened in 1964, 70 years since the Camp opened in 1954 and 85 years since the shore establishment opened at Plas Newydd in 1949.
